Medicare Supplements

Medicare Supplement Insurance Policies also known as Medigap plans are sold by private insurance companies which provide coverage – at varying levels – for the significant out-of-pocket costs that are not covered by Medicare such as deductibles, coinsurance and copayments. Working in tandem with Medicare, supplements allow Medicare recipients to budget for medical costs and to avoid the confusion and inconvenience of handling complex medical bills from providers. It is important to know that Medicare supplement insurance is broken down into plans identified by letter –A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M & N. These plans are standardized and must follow federal and state laws, which have been created to protect you, the consumer. All of these plans identified by the same letter have the same benefits for example plans identified as “Plan A” are identical in coverage regardless of the company that is selling them the only difference will be the cost they are selling the plan for.

Medicare Advantage Plans

Medicare Advantage plans are an alternative way of receiving Part A and Part B and sometimes Part D coverage. Choosing a Medicare Advantage plan takes the place of Original Medicare – you cannot have both. Medicare Advantage plans are managed and ran by private insurance companies for their members that sign up and purchase the plans. Medicare Advantage plans are designed in a cost-share structure. These plans may come at a lower premium and at times no premium cost than a Medicare Supplement however they may incur healthcare costs in the form of co-pays, co-insurance and deductibles. It is important to understand the difference between a Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage plan so you can make the wise choice for you and your needs.

Medicare Prescription Drug Plans

Medicare Part D coverage is insurance that helps people pay for prescription drugs at participating pharmacies. It is available to everyone who has Medicare Part A or Part B or both of A & B of Medicare. It is very important for you to sign up for a Part D plan which is either a stand-alone plan or in a Medicare Advantage plan. There are many important factors you need to consider when choosing the right plan for you and this is where the help of a qualified agent will help understand and walk you in this process.
